(Photos: Joseph Wellington) GOSPEL singer Kevin Downswell has cancelled overseas gigs to focus on giving back to the less fortunate.

He has launched the Realignment tour, an initiative spearheaded by his Kevin Downswell Ministries, to provide assistance to two children's homes that are in dire need of assistance.

The Manning Child Care Facility for boys in St Elizabeth and the Pringle Home for Children in St Mary will be the beneficiaries.

“Realignment is about saying I've lost my way and getting back the image that God had in his mind when he first thought about us. Loving God again and loving people…again,” Downswell told the Jamaica Observer.

At the media launch on Tuesday, July 4, at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston, Downswell outlined plans for the Realignment series.

“We searched for a group of children that I wanted to invest in and we contacted the Child Development Agency. Everything just happened naturally. It's about us getting back to impacting where it matters most,” said Downswell. “We have been spending time with these children every week since May. Our support for these children will go beyond these events; the idea is to rebuild their morals.”

Andrei Roper, brand manager at KFC, one of the major sponsors of the initiative, expressed pleasure in the great synergy and partnership over the last seven months with Downswell and his team."We, as a brand, made a decision to come on board for this event and support other initiatives by Kevin Downswell, because they are truly ambassadors for bringing positivity to the people of Jamaica and good, wholesome fun and entertainment. Aligned with our brand is Kevin's message about building a strong and value-based country, entrenched family and family experiences. It has also been a pleasure to work with the team because there is a level of professionalism that they also bring as well,” he said.

Two community initiatives have already taken place — June 29 at the Intown Super Centre grounds in Santa Cruz, and July 1 at the Hi-Lo Supermarket in Port Maria. A collection drive was conducted and will continue at the locations where branded drums have been placed to facilitate gifts from customers who shop at these locations.

On Saturday July 15, there will be a gospel concert at Annotto Bay High School in St Mary, where Downswell and several entertainers are scheduled to perform. During, in the day, a health fair will be conducted to facilitate free dental care, health checks, and blood pressure checks among other services.

The activities move to the St Elizabeth Technical High school om Sunday, July 16, where Downswell will again lead charge in a gospel concert.

On Saturday July 22, the One on One Session and Live Recording will be held at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College on Old Hope Road.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia “Babsy” Grange appealed for more sponsors to support Dowswell's initiative.

“We see Realignment 2017 because of the importance of the task it has set. I am appealing for more sponsors to come on board. This project is one which will inspire Jamaicans,” said Grange.

For financial donations, ISupportJamaica has been provided by JN Bank, where Jamaicans living locally and abroad can make donations.
